5 Day – Canyonland Oasis Expedition
Gear up for the wild adventure that lies ahead on our Canyonland Oasis Expedition in Morocco! As you prepare for this adventure, ensure you’re outfitted for the rugged terrain, especially with comfy shoes for traversing the canyons. Expect surprises along the way, including potential opportunities to swim in certain areas, depending on the weather.
This tour offers a unique opportunity to connect with the locals, particularly through visits to cooperatives where you’ll interact with artisans and learn about their traditional crafts.
Day 1 – Agadir - Tafraoute
- The Canyonland Oasis Expedition starts from your chosen location in Agadir. Head north-east towards Tafraoute, a small town in the Anti-Atlas mountains.
- A couple of the stops along the route will be at local argan oil cooperatives. These collectives provide guests the opportunity to sample and learn about the production of argan oil, which is a highly valued commodity in Morocco and across the world.
- You are expected to arrive at Tafraoute in the afternoon, a village distinguished for its vibrant homes and stunning rock paintings. Before supper, you will have time to stroll about the town and unwind in a classic riad (guesthouse).
Day 2 – Tata - Tissint
- On the second day, carry on north-east to Tata and venture into the nearby canyons, including Guegoul Canyon, notable for its stunning rock formations, narrow passages and natural pools. Take a guided walk through the canyon to appreciate its beauty and learn about the local flora and fauna.
- After eating at a nearby restaurant in Tata, proceed in the direction of Tissint.
- Reaching Tissint in the late afternoon, discover the Tissint Canyon Oasis. Wander through the green oasis nestled in the canyon, surrounded by palm trees and flowing water. Why not take a leisurely stroll along the trails, relax by the oasis pools or take a refreshing dip.
- As evening falls, check in to your accommodation in Tissint and relax after a day of exploration. Indulge in a dinner showcasing authentic Moroccan cuisine.
Day 3 – Foum Zguid - Tazenakht
- For a day of exploration with a focus on Berber carpets and oases, set off from Tissint in the direction of Foum Zguid.
- In Foum Zguid, time will be set aside to tour the local carpet shops and learn about the art of Berber carpet weaving. Then onwards to Tazenakht.
- Upon reaching Tazenakht, home to Berber carpets, rugs and textiles, delve into the town’s carpet cooperatives. Here, you can witness the elaborate process of carpet making and potentially acquire a handmade keepsake.
- Check into your accommodation in Tazenakht and enjoy dinner, reflecting on the day’s exploration of Berber artistry and oasis landscapes.
Day 4 - Taliouine - Aoulouz - Taroudant
- Setting out from Tazenakht for a day brimming with cultural revelations and natural spectacles as you head towards Taliouine, renowned as the saffron capital of Morocco.
- A guided session at a saffron cooperative will show you the intricate process of producing saffron, from growing to harvesting, and the value of saffron in Moroccan cuisine and culture.
- A short stop near Aoulouz will be an opportunity to witness a unique spectacle – goats climbing argan trees. Watch in amazement as these agile animals navigate the branches in search of argan fruit, giving a fascinating insight into local agricultural practices.
- Late afternoon arrival in Taroudant, often called ‘Little Marrakech’ for its ancient walls and lively souks. Settle into your accommodation and enjoy your free time.
Day 5 – Taroudante - Agadir
- Kick off your day by exploring Taroudant, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Grand Mosque, historic city gates and bustling souks selling a variety of souvenirs and handicrafts.
- As the late afternoon sets in, beginning the journey back to Agadir from Taroudant, symbolizing the conclusion of your Canyonland Oasis Expedition.
- Drop off is at a spot of your choice within Agadir.
